If you’ve recently been to our hospital’s main campus, you probably noticed the massive construction project that taking place near our Emergency center. Usually when we hear the word “construction” we cringe because we immediately think of all the noise, blocked areas, and annoyances that come with most construction projects. However, the construction that has been underway here at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will truly revolutionize the level of care that our children will receive!
The six-story building will be a new facility named the Advanced Pediatric Care Pavilion (APCP), that will house three brand new intensive care units, including the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This new facility will enhance the experience and treatment of our patients and their families and provide unprecedented medical care for children facing the toughest of medical issues.
This new state-of-the-art facility will also provide for a new entrance near the Blue Garage that will be designed as a park-like plaza where patients and their families can take a break and enjoy some fresh air. The plaza will incorporate colorful foliage, waterfalls, music, outdoor seating, lively landscaped walls and artfully lit ground landscaping so patients take a break from treatments and medical visits. At night, the plaza will also have activities such as movies and other interactive games that can be projected through one of the plaza’s walls, adding to the overall experience of our patients at Nicklaus Children’s.
